Independent Creative Direction and Brand Communications Consultants

Your agencies make the work. We make sure it's right.

Studio Syed is an independent creative directorate. You bring us the work your teams and agencies make: the ads, the branding, the packaging, the websites, the communications. We tell you, plainly, where it's landing and where it isn't, then write it up as notes you can hand straight back to them. We don't pitch, produce, or replace anyone. We're the second pair of eyes that catches what the first pair stopped seeing.

01 / remitThe remit

The space between you and the people who make your work.

Bring us anything that's already been made, whether it came from one agency, three agencies, or your own team down the hall. We'll tell you, straight and without ego, where it's working and where it isn't. You forward the notes. Your people make the changes. Nothing about who you already work with has to change, and no one has to know the second look didn't come from inside the room.

What we do

  • Go back to the brief behind the work, then ask the obvious question. Does this actually answer it?
  • Spot what's missing, what's drifted off-strategy, and what's merely fine when it ought to be a lot better.
  • Write notes you can act on: ranked, and pitched at whoever's going to do the work.
  • Stick with it as the work changes, round after round.

What we don't

  • Design, write, art-direct or build the final files. That's your agency's craft, not ours, and we're not pretending otherwise.
  • Pitch against the people you already use, or quietly angle for their account.
  • Show up on your org chart, or take the credit for what your team makes.
  • Bill you per project, or start a meter the moment you ask a question.
Why an outside eye

Founders live inside the thing they've built. Owners have defended every call a hundred times over. That closeness is a strength, and it's the exact spot where blind spots grow.

And nearly everyone else you'd ask has something of their own to sell. An agency has its craft and its hours to fill. A media partner has airtime and space to move. We've got none of that. We sell the read and nothing else. No production to upsell, no inventory to shift, no account to protect. Just an honest take on whether the work is doing its job.

02 / processHow it works

A loop, not a hand-off.

That's the whole shape of it: the work goes out, gets a proper second look, and comes back better. Then round it goes again.

01

Send us the work

Rough drafts, near-finals, or pieces already out in the world, plus whatever brief or thinking sits behind them.

02

We actually look

Against the strategy, the audience, the category, and the bar the work is trying to clear. Not just whether it's shiny.

03

You get notes you can forward

Specific, ranked, and written for the people who'll act on them. Send them on however you like.

04

And round it goes again

On a retainer we stay in it as the work evolves, so the second look becomes a habit, not a one-off rescue.

03 / scopeUnder review

If it carries your brand, it's worth a second look.

A rough sense of what tends to land on the desk. Though more often than not, it's the brief itself that needs the second look.

AAdvertising & campaignsFilm, print, OOH, social, the idea underneath them all.
BBrand identityLogos, systems, guidelines, the way it all holds together.
CPackagingStructure, hierarchy, shelf presence, the first three seconds.
DWebsites & digitalFlow, voice, and whether the experience earns its clicks.
ENaming & messagingWhat it's called, what it says, what it quietly implies.
FPitch & presentationThe deck that has to win the room before the work can.
GRetail & environmentHow the brand behaves once it's a physical place.
HThe brief itselfOften the cheapest thing to fix and the most expensive to ignore.
04 / termsThe arrangement

We work on a retainer, sized to how much you're putting out into the world, and how closely you want us watching it.

Some clients send us one high-stakes campaign before it ships. Others run everything past us, week in, week out. We work out the scope together, and after that it's a standing line you can lean on. Nothing to re-quote each time, no meter ticking while you think out loud. The work stays yours. So do the agencies. We just make sure the version that leaves the building is the one worth putting your name on.

05 / aboutAbout Studio Syed

Studio Syed is led by Syed Adnan Yousuf, a creative director with three decades and several markets of brand-building behind him. He's held creative leadership inside the Ogilvy and JWT global networks and well beyond, running campaigns for the likes of Mountain Dew, Pepsi, Lay's, Barclays, 3M, Syngenta, Bayer and LG, to name a few. There have also been multiple multi-million-dollar corporate-identity changeovers, each carried through to a successful finish. Along the way he's co-founded a few ventures of his own and spent years teaching, advising and sitting on thesis juries at leading art and design schools.

And it isn't one person's opinion. Over three decades and several markets, Syed has built a deep bench of seasoned, independent practitioners: copywriters, art directors, filmmakers and designers who've spent whole careers making this kind of work. When a brief calls for a particular kind of eye, that's who we bring in. These are relationships, not a roster, so the right expertise is on hand when the work needs it. Who comes in, and when, is ours to decide.

One habit runs through all of it: asking the question every brief eventually has to answer. Is this actually right? Studio Syed is where that question goes to work for you.

Established on the strength of the second look.

Have something you'd like a second opinion on?
